Sam Chang is an intersectional environmentalist from Ecuador whose passion for data science led him to work with innovation projects funded by the NSF and the NASA ABI. They graduated from Pace University in 2022 with a Master’s in Environmental Science.

As a YPI Project and Cost Manager, Sam works with Clients to maintain budgets, project cost control and execute procurement for furniture, audiovisual, security, and IT project components. Sam also provides analytical cost management for construction requisitions and change orders across multiple YPI Collective projects.

Sam previously worked as a research assistant, leading workshops in South America and creating his R-based code package that addresses uncertainty in georeferenced data. They have been involved in education outreach and support for community-based actions for sustainable land management projects encouraging ecosystem conservation.

Sustainability, diversity, and equity have been driving interests for Sam. Asides from his innate interest in quantitative cost management, Sam has a passion for botany leading him to create a Tropical Greenhouse in Upstate New York where they grew and cared for flowering plants, cactus and epiphytes.
